JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Floor Staff Associate
Employee Classification: Non-exempt, part-time, hourly
Work Schedule: Varies Tuesday – Sunday 9am – 6pm
Reports To: Operations Director
Job Purpose: Promote WOW! Children’s Museum’s mission by providing quality visitor experiences to children and their caregivers through exhibits, hospitality, Museum cleanliness, implementation of Museum safety procedures, and enhancing the visitor’s overall learning experience through customer service.
Based on qualifications, performance and availability, Floor Staff Associate may advance to Special Events Coordinator, Member Services Assistant, or available Exhibit/Programs staff personnel positions (see descriptions below).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (In order of priority)
- Maintains Quality Customer Service by:
- Providing hospitality to children and their caregivers by greeting each visitor,
- offering information, answering questions, and providing general assistance
- Check-in customers, sell memberships, gift certificates, punch cards, or other Museum services
- Communicating Museum policies to visitors
- Providing Assistance with exhibits as needed
- Maintains Overall Clean Museum Environment by:
- Walking through Museum making sure all thru ways are clear of debris or obstacles; standard being every 30 minutes.
- Upkeep of bathrooms, snack area, reusable exhibit products, spills, and general neatness
- Cleaning props and exhibits throughout the day
- Participating in prep and cleaning for field trips, parties, and classes
- Providing assistance to Exhibits and Programming staff
- Maintains a Safe Museum Environment by:
- Following and enforcing Museum standards and policies
- Communicating any potential or active problems to the appropriate Museum staff
- Assisting in lost child/caregiver response
- Provide basic first aid as needed (i.e. band aids, ice packs)
- Participates in Interdepartmental Collaboration and Training:
- Attending all staff meetings as required
- Keeping up to date on Museum policies, standards, and specific language
- Participating in training sessions to review known material and learn new material
- Assisting in additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or other Museum Directors.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED required. B.A. or Grad Student preferred, particularly in the fields of museum studies, early childhood education, or marketing
Experience: Customer Service experience, as well as, experience working with children and families a plus; familiarity with a fast-paced work environment preferred.
Skills & Abilities: Basic computer skills, ability to operate cash register or point of sales system; good communication necessary; flexible and responsible; able to prioritize; self-motivated friendly people person. Familiarity with databases, marketing materials, websites is a plus. Two positions are available with the potential to also fill two of the following museum functions: Special Events Coordinator will: identify, schedule, and oversee 10 cultural, artistic, music and/or dance performances each year; assist with promotion of events. Member Services Assistant will: assist with production of museum marketing materials and brochures; assist with updating website; assist with maintaining email database of visitors; Exhibits Assistant will: identify and resolve day to day exhibit maintenance issues, refer significant issues to senior staff, assist with exhibit build and installation; Program Assistant will: facilitate educational programming for young families, assist with inventory and program preparation, assist with program evaluations.
